The National Renewable Energy Laboratory’s (NREL) Industry Growth Forum is the nation’s premier clean energy investment event. The conference features presentations from emerging clean energy companies as well as lectures and panels featuring industry thought leaders that keep attendees up to date on developments in technology, regulation, capitalization and other issues affecting innovation and commercialization of clean technologies. The event also provides crucial ten-minute one-on-one meetings in which cleantech companies can talk with venture capitalists, investors and strategic partners that specialize in renewable energy projects. This is an essential function of the Industry Growth Forum: since 2003, presenting companies have collectively raised more than $5B in growth financing.
In 2013, NREL used their first event app, from a leading national brand conference app company. In 2014, NREL switched to JUJAMA for superior customer service and better features in the key areas crucial to the success of attendees at the Industry Growth Forum.
NREL Project & Marketing Developer Renae Golden said, “The Industry Growth Forum is first and foremost a networking event, so we strive to make it as interactive as possible. JUJAMA provided key event app features such as media-rich profiles, meeting scheduler and messaging that facilitated and enhanced the networking experience for our attendees. Being able to attach documents and videos to attendee profiles makes it easier for participants to get a clear idea of who else is attending. That was not possible with our previous event app.”
NREL also underscored the value of the JUJAMA app’s comprehensive, seamless meeting scheduling capabilities—unlike other event apps, which say they offer the ability for attendees to connect but leave the actual logistics of connection to the participants themselves. Golden said, “We found JUJAMA’s meeting request and scheduling feature to be the perfect complement to the interactive nature of our event. Next year we will be eliminating the separate meeting tool that was used to schedule some meetings at this year’s event. Instead we will be scheduling all networking meetings through the JUJAMA app.”
The connections that JUJAMA helps to foster at the NREL Industry Forum are not limited to one-on-one meetings. Golden said, “We liked how JUJAMA’s speaker profiles allowed attendees to see who the speakers would be, preview their presentations and then reach out to the speaker later on. These speakers are thought leaders in the industry—the JUJAMA app made them much more approachable for our attendees.”

In addition to superior functionalities in the areas most important to Forum attendees, NREL also appreciated JUJAMA’s world-class customer service, including some last-minute customization to prevent potential conflicts in attendees’ schedules. Golden said, “The national brand event app we used last year was just conference app software that provided no assistance with content. JUJAMA, by contrast, takes a hands-on approach. Everyone we worked with at JUJAMA was incredibly helpful with questions and data upload. They did the heavy lifting for us, which really took the weight off my shoulders in the run-up to the event.”
Positive Attendee Feedback & Adoption
Accordingly to Golden, Industry Growth Forum participants responded very positively to the JUJAMA event app. “Our attendees love it. They found it very user friendly, and we saw a 20% higher adoption rate this year. We are working with JUJAMA now to make a few tweaks for next year, when we expect even more attendees to take advantage of the capabilities JUJAMA offers.”
